Catch LA in Los Angeles, California

Catch is a chain restaurant with a few locations around the United States and in Mexico. I’ve been to the one in New York City and in Playa del Carmen, and I loved the food at both locations, so I knew this spot was going to be good.

Catch LA has rooftop dining, so my friend and I were still able to have dinner during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like most other restaurants, you have to always wear a face mask when you aren’t sitting at a table. Our time was limited to 90 minutes, so our food came out super fast, which isn’t a bad thing. I did feel super rushed, but it’s understandable. Restaurants don’t want people lingering and they also have to accommodate other reservations.

We ordered quite a few dishes because, well, I’m on vacation and we’re allowed to splurge.

two glasses of mixed drinks

First up, drinks! I ordered the Detox Retox (front) and my friend ordered the East Coast Kali. I really enjoyed mine because it had matcha and tequila in it. Matcha has some great health benefits to it (the detox) and of course the tequila is the “retox.” I love how clever the cocktail names on the menu are. The East Coast Kali has jalapeno infused tequila with grand marnier, campari, and passionfruit and orange juice.

plate of arugula salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and beets

If you love your vegetables, you’ll definitely love the roasted beets salad.

The Grilled Spanish Octopus wasn’t as great as I remembered it to be the first time I had it. I thought it was too salty, even with the potatoes.

filet of roasted branzino on top of a bed of basmati rice

The Herb-Roasted Branzino was cooked to perfection—flaky and moist.

plate of vegetable sushi

The Vegetable King Roll was so delicious considering there is no actual fish, but instead king oyster mushroom. This was my favorite dish out of everything we ordered.

plate of sushi with pieces of salmon on top

The Salmon Jalapeno Roll was tasty as well. At the time, I was taking a break from eating raw sushi, so I just took of the salmon and gave it to my friend. I loved the spiciness from the jalapeno.

slice of vegan blueberry cheesecake

Although I’m not a vegan, I do love trying vegan food. The waiter insisted I try the vegan blueberry cheesecake. It blew my mind how the “cheesecake” was the same texture as regular cheesecake. I normally don’t like sweets, but this cheesecake wasn’t too sweet for me.

If you’re looking to celebrate with friends or to bring a date, I highly recommend Catch LA. It is on the pricier side, but the food is actually really good. The entryway to the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, so don’t forget to snap pics for the ‘Gram.

Los Angeles weather has been really good during my whole stay. It’s 80 degrees during the day and mid-60s in the evening. I wore a long sleeve midi dress, but I was still freezing. I recommend bringing a light jacket or layering up.
